JOEL PERU NAMED FARM & FIELD MANAGER AT DISCOVERY FARM LANGHAM

Langham, SK – Glacier FarmMedia Discovery Farm Langham has announced Joel Peru, a professional agrologist and certified crop advisor, as the new farm and field manager, a position that provides oversight of day-to-day operations of the agricultural event, research and demonstration site.

“I was at the first Ag in Motion at the Discovery Farm Langham site and I saw a fantastic opportunity for our industry partners to showcase the latest and greatest in technology,” said Peru, who assumed his new position March 15. “Discovery Farm is where producers can learn about sustainable and profitable practices, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of working with partners, meeting new people and being part of both Field of Excellence and the largest farm show in western Canada, Ag in Motion.”

Peru grew up in Saskatoon but spent his summers working on his grandparents’ 4,000-acre grain farm in southwest Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in agronomy and a minor in agribusiness. Before joining Discovery Farm, Peru was an irrigation agrologist with the Ministry of Agriculture Crop and Irrigation Branch in Outlook, SK.

“We are very pleased to have Joel join the team at Discovery Farm to advance our goal of connecting western Canadian farmers with industry and research partners,” said Carla Vipond, Glacier FarmMedia vice-president of Glacier FarmMedia. “His combination of on-farm, real-world experience and professional knowledge creates opportunities to expand the scope of the in-field projects and demonstrations we’re able to offer to producers at Discovery Farm Langham.”

In 2019, Peru received the Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Public Service for an innovative virtual crop-walk program and in 2020, was named Young Agrologist of the Year by the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists. During the 2021 Soil and Crops Workshop hosted by the University of Saskatchewan, Peru spoke about irrigation in Saskatchewan and the opportunities for expansion in the province.

Peru’s responsibilities as farm and field manager include managing equipment and inputs at Discovery Farm throughout the growing season, overseeing irrigation programs across the site and maintaining research protocols.
