Industry partners conduct small- and large-plot demonstration research at Discovery Farm Woodstock to test practical applications, farming methods, technologies and products in a real-world setting.
Farmers attending Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show from September 12-14 can have an insider’s look at what is in the pipeline for agriculture by hopping on the Discovery Farm “Off the Beaten Path” Demonstration Research Tour.
During the tour, visitors can hear about what’s new on these Discovery Farm projects:
These projects contribute to important learning throughout the year:
The Great Lakes Yield Enhancement Network (YEN) has been an excellent winter wheat yield project for Discovery Farm. This project is part of a global series that helps local farmers understand their yield potential and learn possible limitations. Be sure to find out more at the Discovery Farm Booth at the show.
Grober Nutrition’s ongoing research trials share learning on young animals at the Grober Young Animal Development Centre located at Discovery Farm Woodstock.
Tillage T’s Demonstration: this demonstration, held in partnership with Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and Soils At Guelph, lets producers see a variety of fall tillage choices to determine what is the best time and use for each implement, and how the application overwinters.
“We have seen a real increase in research at Woodstock the last few years,” says Bell. “In August we were welcomed as a Pan-Canadian Smart Farm Network partner, making us one of eight national smart farm sites – and the only site in Ontario – working together to advance smart technologies. We are excited to bring these developments forward for Ontario farmers.”
