Winny Seeds is proud to share the Pedigreed Seed Showcase located at Discovery Farm Langham. Partnering with SeCan, FP Genetics and Canterra Seeds, this 2023 initiative features the pedigreed seed varieties Winny Seeds offers. This 5-acre plot features wheat, durum, canola and barley.
With new wheat and durum varieties on the market, it is important for farmers to see varieties growing in the field so they can see first-hand the new genetics from a variety of seed companies. Being able to showcase some of the newest and best from SeCan, FP Genetics and Canterra will be helpful for farmers because growing good quality seed with the best genetics is crucial for success.
This project is a smaller version of the variety trial currently being grown on the Winny farm. Having this second location provides first-hand knowledge of how each variety compares in yield and quality, and how growing conditions affect each variety. This data will inform which varieties Winny Seeds will continue to grow in the future.
Having this showcase at Discovery Farm Langham can show true field conditions, and plots are available for farmers to examine throughout the growing season. At the end of the season, Winny Seeds will have information on the wheat variety with the highest yield, the highest protein and data on the overall best from the four wheat varieties in the trial.
