Great Lakes Yield Enhancement Network (YEN) Winter Wheat Yield

Discovery Farm Woodstock is proud to be partnered with the Great Lakes Yield Enhancement Network (YEN). This initiative is part of a global series that helps local farmers understand their yield potential and learn possible limitations. The main objective of this program is to connect agricultural organizations, extension specialists, academics, agronomists and farmers to find potential ways to close the gap between possible and actual yields.

This project is important to Ontario farmers as minimal research has been collected regarding winter wheat yields. Planted in October 2022, the winter wheat crop at Discovery Farm will be fertilized this spring and harvested in mid-to-late July. By participating in the Great Lakes YEN project, the staff at Discovery Farm Woodstock will gain insight into winter wheat growth, yield production and crop potential versus actual output.

Discovery Farm Woodstock is home to research and networking events that occur year-round on the demonstration grounds. The partnership with Great Lakes YEN is a great opportunity to join an established community of dedicated farmers working towards a common goal of improving the growing process to result in higher yields. Discovery Farm is excited to share the information collected through this project with farmers throughout Ontario and Eastern Canada. Although this is the first year of this partnership opportunity with Great Lakes YEN, Discovery Farm hopes this project is the beginning of more learning to come.
