WORKING LANDSCAPES: 2022 AGRICULTURAL WATER MANAGEMENT TECHNICAL WORKSHOP

View Calendar

Recent wet years (2011-2014) and multi-year drought periods (e.g., 2001-2002) have highlighted the importance of water management in the agricultural portions of Saskatchewan. Industry practices have evolved quickly to adapt, including the use of larger construction equipment, water management planning using precision agriculture, tile drainage and the use of sophisticated software for drainage design. In parallel, the research community has made substantial leaps in understanding the downstream flows and water quality and habitat responses in these managed landscapes. However, these two growing bodies of knowledge and practice often remain separated by discipline and professional connections. Bridging this gap is important as drainage management and related policy evolves in Saskatchewan. A theme of ‘Working Landscapes” can be used to synthesize the work of both researchers and industry. “Working Landscapes” is a one-day workshop focused on sharing new science in drainage management between producers and industry practitioners and the academic research community. Learn from academic and industry professionals about:

  • Current water management techniques in Saskatchewan
  • Landscape responses and drainage economics
