Canadian farmers attending Ag in Motion on July 16-28, 2024 can get an insider’s look at what is in the pipeline for agriculture. The Discovery Farm “Off the Beaten Path” Demonstration Research Tour presented by BMO takes farmers into the fields where projects are underway.
“These cross-industry demonstration research projects are a great way for researchers to test and verify the latest technologies in real farming conditions,” says Blake Weiseth, Applied Research Lead at Discovery Farm Langham and Agriculture Research Chair at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. “The variety of demonstrations taking place on the farm is really exciting.”
Weiseth notes that partners conduct small- and large-plot demonstration research at Discovery Farm Langham and the solutions that partners are working on ‘in the dirt’ have the potential to change practices and approaches on Western Canadian farms.
During the tour, visitors can hear about what’s new on these multi-year Discovery Farm projects:
Field of Excellence powered by AgExpert: a large-scale, 110-acre collaborative research project with several industry partners as part of the Pan-Canadian Smart Farm Network, a national network of Smart Farms that will help the development of smart agricultural technologies. Partners: A&L Canada Laboratories Inc., AgExpert, AGI, CLAAS, MNP and SWAT MAPS.
4Rs Plus Project: evaluating strategies for optimizing water and nutrient use efficiency, and the impact water management can have on soil properties. Partners: Water Security Agency.
Salinity Project: a five-year investigation evaluating the effectiveness of using perennial forages as a tool in managing salt-affected soils. Partners: Ducks Unlimited Saskatchewan, Proven Seed.
The “Off the Beaten Path” Demonstration Research Tour will also include visits to these partner-led projects:
